The 2009 World Series of Poker main event gathered together over 6000 players. After almost one week of play we are now down to around 800 players. The good news is that there are still multiple top poker pros left in the field.
To start of the things the current chipleader is French Bertrand Grospellier who has already won European Poker Tour tournament and World Poker Tour tournament and over $5million in last few years from live poker tournament, and now he is the biggest favorite to win the WSOP ME and to add $8million to his earnings. Bertrand has an around 1.4million stack and has a decent lead as the person in the second place has less than 1million chips.
Love him or hate him, but Phil Hellmuth appears to be making a great run in the WSOP ME as he is currently sitting with 550,000 chip stack which puts him around the 20th place.
Phil Ivey has been steadily climbing the leaderboard in this tournament and even though he had a small setback at the end of today he still has a 365,000 stack and is comfortable in the top 100.
Ivey is closely followed by another high stakes games regular, French David Benyamine who has a 350,000 stack.
Last year’s winner Peter Eastage had a good run today and he took his small stack all the way up to 300,000. The 2005 winner Joe Hachem is as well still going after the 2nd WSOP ME bracelet.
2008 third place finisher Dennis Phillips is also still in the tournament and trying to score another big score.
Besides this tough pack of players the pros left in the tournament included for an example: Mike Sexton, Joe Sebok, Chris Ferguson, JC Tran, Dutch Noah Boeken & Rolf Slotboom and the player of the year race leader Jeff Lisandro.
