1) Playing tight poker is right
In theory playing tight in poker games is the right strategy. This is because when you play tight your starting hand on the average is better than your opponents and thus you have an edge against them if you are at least as good as they are postflop. However the thing is playing tight narrows down your range and if you are playing extremely tight the actually good poker players usually know what you are holding and thus can play “perfect” poker with their speculative hands. Conclusion: playing tight is 100% right only when you are playing against idiots and people who cant read hands in poker.
2) Poker tournaments are great.
Ok to be honest if you believe this to be true you most likely have no future in poker. The fact is that tournaments are variance fest in which the actually skilled players are ranked placed on how lucky they got. In tournament poker there is many types of luck. Obviously you can get lucky by getting good starting hands, you can also get lucky by getting into a tables that are filled with idiots who don’t know how to play poker, you can also get lucky in the sense that your hands hold up in the all ins. All in all poker tournaments are almost purely luck and the only reason you might think they are great or cool is thanks to ESPN.
3) The players you see on TV are good in poker.
First of all, LOL. There is two ways in which a player can make their way into your TV screen. First of all he can get lucky in a poker tournament (as explained above) or he can a personality that the producers believe are TV worthy. Neither one really has anything to do with how good the player actually is in poker. Good examples of this are for an example Sam Farha and Mike Matusow. It is apparent to anyone that is competent in both poker that both of these guys are completely brain dead when it comes to playing poker. Now to be fair Sam Farha never claimed to be good in poker and thus it is cool that he plays the poker games only for the fame and fun. Mike Matusow however is a poker instructor and player that tries to keep up the image that he is good in poker. Obviously if you watch Mike Matusow play poker you will understand almost instantly that he has almost no clue about how to be a profitable poker player (other than whoring himself our).
These are three things that majority of the poker players believe to be true. If you don’t believe them to be true you are already better in poker than them
