Swedish Tomas Alenius Wins WSOP Bracelet

Sweden has just won its first 2009 World Series of Poker bracelet. The bracelet won by young Swedish called Tomas Alenius. Coming to this event Tomas Alenius had already made the cash 4 times in World Series of Poker, with the best result being 21st of place in a 2006 $1,500 no limit holdem event for $9,000.

Tomas has also done well in some rather big tournaments back in his home country, Sweden.

However nothing comes close to this victory. 643 players registered for this $1,500 fixed limit holdem tournament, creating prize pool of around $1million.

Coming into the final day Al Barbieri was the chipleader, with 15 players still left in the tournament. At the beginning of the final day the blinds kept rising rather quickly and it didn’t take long to form the final table for this WSOP Event.

The final table featured some pretty decent fixed limit holdem players, such as Richard Brodie who is a frequent $500/$1000 fixed limit online poker under the nick name Quiet Lion.

However one by one they kept getting knocked out while Tomas Alenius continued his cruising towards the victory. When the final day chipleader Al Barbieri got knocked out on 3rd place it was time for the final headsup. At the beginning of the headsup Jason Tam had a 3-1 chiplead over Tomas Alenius. However at that point the blinds were already extremely high and after a while Tomas had the chiplead.

In the final hand Jason Tam got it allin preflop with Q5offsuit against A4o. When the board didn’t improve Tam’s hand Alenius could start celebrating his first WSOP bracelet.
