Roland de Wolfe Wins 2009 WSOP Omaha Hi-Lo

English man Roland de Wolfe has just won his first ever World Series of Poker bracelet. The victory makes Roland the second person ever to have won European Poker Tour, World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker tournament. The first person to do it was young American, Gavin Griffin.

Roland won his WPT title back in 2005 at Paris, in 2006 he managed to win the EPT Dublin event and ever since that he has been going after the WSOP title. Already before this tournament he had made the WSOP final twice, however those times he had to settle for 4th and 6th place.

Now in 2009 he finally got what he wanted. 198 players signed up to play the $5,000 pot limit omaha hi/lo event (Event number 27). Coming in to the final table Roland de Wolfe hardly was a favorite. In fact after the tournament he told the reporters that he believes that before the tournament he had played pot limit omaha hi lo for less than a hour.

Besides Roland de Wolfe the final table featured great and accomplished poker players such as Andy Black and Alex Kravchenko. However it was Scott Clements who was the biggest favorite to win the bracelet.

Scott Clements is widely considered to be one of the world’s best omaha players, having already won two omaha bracelets. Besides the bracelets Scott had already finished 2nd in the 2009 $10,000 WSOP omaha hi/lo championship tournament, second only to Daniel Alaei.

Andy Black and Alex Kravchenko got knocked out quite early from the final table, on 6th and 5th place. However Scott Clements kept playing extremely well and managed to increase his chip stack. When there was only three players left Scott Clements and Roland de Wolfe were both still in, along side with Brett Richey. The three handed play hadn’t lasted too long when Roland and Scott played a monster pot. Roland managed to scoop (win both low and high pot) the monster pot and send Scott Clements to the rail.

Coming into the final headsup Roland had more than 4-1 chip lead over Brett Richey. And it didn’t take long for him to beat Brett Richey.
