What is rake?

If you are playing real money poker on the internet you are also paying rake. That is a fact. It doesn’t matter if you are playing cash games, tournaments, sit n goes, omaha, texas holdem, some other game, headsup, 6 max, 10 max, or some other format. You are paying rake no matter what.

In tournaments rake is the amount the house takes on top of the buyin amount. For an example if a tournament has $50 + $5 buyin the rake which the house ( = the online poker room you are playing at) takes is $5. In cash games rake is the amount the poker room takes from each pot that goes to flop or beyond.

The rake amounts might not seem all that big and you might think that they really don’t make that much of a difference on your results. However, even if you are only playing poker to kill some time it would be silly not to get some of the rake amount returned to you. Right? ¨

What are Rakeback and VIP Cashback?
