Poker Writer Jerrod Ankenman Wins WSOP

Some say that those who cant do teach. Poker book writer Jerrod Ankenman appears to be proving that at least in his case this is non-sense. Couple years ago Jerrod published a popular poker “Mathematics of poker” together with Bill Chen. But unlikely many other writers might have done he just began playing more poker instead of living of the royalties.

In 2006 he was 2nd in a $3,000 WSOP limit holdem event for $150,000. Last year Jerrod managed to finish in the cash 4 times in the WSOP tournament, including being second in a $10,000 limit holdem tournament. Having finished twice second in a WSOP tournament Jerrod was surely highly motivated to show the poker world that he could actually win a WSOP tournament.

During the 2009 World Series of Poker Ankenman didn’t have any cashes prior to making the final table in a $2,500 mixed game tournament.

The final table featured some extremely well known poker players such as Layne Fack and Jimmy Fricke. Jerrod didn’t let this confuse him and instead he kept playing good solid poker throughout the whole final table until he found himself in the final headsup against Sergey Altbregin. When the headsup started the chip stacks were almost even.

After a while Jerrod managed to take a decent chip lead and when the final hand came in no limit holdem he had pretty sizable chip advantage. In the final hand the players got all the chips to the middle on 643 rainbow flop. Jerrod was holding 65 for top pair and gut shot and Sergey Altbergin J4 suited for second pair and backdoor flushdraw.
