Leo Wolpert Wins WSOP Headsup Tournament

47 year old English man John Duthie and 26 year old American Leo Wolpert faced each other in the $10,000 World Series of Poker headsup tournament final. To make things interesting the WSOP organization had decided that the final headsup match would be played with best out of three method, meaning that the player that wins first 2 matches will be crowned as the WSOP headsup champion.
The first headsup match lasted impressive 96 hands. In the final Jonh Duthie was deal AQ suited and when he raised before the flop Wolpert answered by going all in with KQ suited. John Duthie made an easy call and when Wolpert didn’t manage to improve his hand the first mach went to Duthie.

In the second match we had to wait only 9 hands before it ended. In the final hand Leo Wolpert opened 90,000 from the button and John Duthie called the flop came down A 9 6 rainbow duthie check raised the flop and Wolpert just called the check raise. On turn 2 came and John Duthie check raised again, this time putting himself allin. Again Leo Wolpert called and when Leo showed pocket 66 against John’s AK john was already drawing dead and the match was equalized.

In the last match it took massive 190 hands before the WSOP headsup champion was crowned. In the final hand Wolpert just completed the small blind and John checked on his big blind. The flop came T53 with two spades, Duthie checked and Wolpert bet 120,000 at this Duthie moved all in and Wolpert quickly called with 53 of hearts. John showed T2 no spades and would have needed help on turn or river, but neither one helped him and Wolpert could start celebrating his first WSOP victory.

For his victory Wolpert gets around $600,000 + prestigious WSOP bracelet and Duthie for his second place finish bit less than $400,000.
