Hungarian Peter Traply Wins WSOP Shootout

The Europeans success in the 2009 World Series of Poker continued today. The $5,000 shootout WSOP tournament was a bit different from most other WSOP tournaments in that only 5 players made the actual final table.

Those players were Nasr El Nasr from Germany, Peter Traply from Hungary, Russian Maxim Lyskov and American Andrew Lichtenberger & Danny Wong.

Nasr El Nasr was trying to play the part of the table captain in the final, but due to some bad luck he was the first one to get knocked out – for his 5th place he rewarded with over $80,000.

After Danny Wong and Maxim Lyskov got knocked out as well it was Peter Traply and Andrew Lichtenberger who were to decide the fate of the bracelet. Andrew Lichtenberger had gotten extremely lucky several times throughout the tournament, including once beating pocket aces with T9 suited after a preflop allin. Peter Traply on the other hand had been playing solid poker most of the tournament including the final table. In the final table he managed to accumulate a nice stack chips without having to go too often to the showdown.

In the final hand Traply got his chips in the middle with AK off suited against Lichtenberger’s AJ off suited and as this time around Lichtenberger wasn’t able to do an outdraw Traply could start celebrating his victory. For his victory he gets around $350,000.

Before this tournament Peter’s best score was 8th place in the EPT Monte Carlo main event.

Phil Ivey finished in 8th place in this tournament..
