In our last article we looked in to same scenarios that might happen and lead to the death of online poker in the next few years. You can find the article here: Online poker is going to die
In this article we will look into possible ways to save online poker from dying.
1) Killing headsup tables
These days every single poker site has a whole bunch of “bumhunters”. Bumhunters are the people who sit in multiple headsup tables and refuse to play against anyone except the absolute weakest players. In our opinion this behavior will eventually lead to the death of online poker. Not only because the weaker players lose their moneys faster when playing against bumhunters in the headsup tables. But also because the bumhunting looks really bad and suspicious to other poker players when the lobbies are filled with headsup tables that have one player sitting in them.
Some poker sites have already taken the first steps to reduce the number of bumhunters by emailing the players who are doing it and telling them if they keep doing it to the same extent they will be eventually punished.
However, we feel like the only real way to get rid of the issue is deleting the headsup tables all together.
2) Getting rid of the poker tracking softwares
Softwares such as PokerTracker 3 are widely used among online poker players these days. These softwares give the user vital information about how his opponents are playing. For an example the software can tell the user that his opponent raises 50% of his hands, and this information will help the player to make the correct decision.
If poker sites decided to make it impossible for people to use poker softwares such as the pokertracker 3 it would certainly improve the games. And after all the looser and funnier the games are the more people will play them.
3) Introducing new games
The games that are currently offered on poker sites have been around virtually from the beginning of the online poker. In our opinion it would vital for online poker sites to introduce new poker games. The new games should have a bigger luck element in them so that the new players can hit great runs and get hooked. An example of such a game would for an example be 5 card pot limit omaha.
4) Ability to block yourself from playing poker games
This would be a quite radical move, but one that would in the end benefit 99.99% of the poker players. It I was made for poker players to block them from playing certain games it would certainly help online. Countless players go every day to way too big games on tilt or under the influence and end up busting their poker rolls. For an example it is not uncommon to hear stories about $1/$2 no limit player having grinded a $5,000 poker bankroll and then in one drunken night blowing his whole poker roll in $10/$20 game.
Thus we feel like poker sites should give an option for players to block from themselves from playing certain poker games. For an example player could request that he can play only no limit holdem and only with blinds of $2/$4 or smaller.
5) More money in activating inactive poker players
In our opinion poker sites should pursue harder players who have A) Never deposited or B) Have played but are no longer playing. What this means that poker sites should start offering frequent reload bonuses and other exclusive promotions for the people who fall under either one of those categories.
