Lot of former pro athletes have tried to make the transition to poker world after they retired, however very few of them have had any actual success in poker. Canadian Greg Mueller might very well be the most successful pro athlete turned poker pro player. After Greg retired from playing ice hockey professionally in 1999 he began playing poker more seriously and has just enjoyed considerable success in live poker and online poker.
Before yesterday Greg Mueller had already made the WSOP final table four times in his career, and once the World Poker Tour final table, however he was still without a major poker tournament victory.
Yesterday Greg made his way into the $10,000 WSOP limit texas holdem final table. The final table of this tournament was without one of the toughest during the 2009 WSOP. In addition to Greg the final table featured for an example poker pros Chad Brawn and Daniel Alaei, and possible the biggest online limit texas holdem winner Matt Hawrilenko aka Hoss_TBF. Greg Muller kept playing solid aggressive poker throughout the final table and soon he found himself in the headsup situation against Pat Pezzin it didn’t take long from Greg to cripple Pat’s chipstack and in the final hand Greg got the chips in to the middle with pocket pair against Pat’s T8. When Pat Pezzin didn’t improve his hand Mueller could start celebrating his first WSOP bracelet. In addition to the bracelet Greg was awarded with over $460,000 in prize money.
Greg Mueller is also active online poker player and can often be found playing the short handed $5/$10 no limit games.
