Eric Baldwin Wins WSOP Event

The 2009 WSOP Finals continued yesterday with the final day of the 2009 $1,500 no limit holdem Event 34 tournament. The tournament had gathered respectable 2095 poker players to compete for the glory and prize money.

Coming into the final day the tournament still had 20 players left. The chipleader was French Bertrand Grospellier aka ElkY who has had amazing last couple years in poker tournament during which he has won over $5million. And at the beginning of the day it appeared that Bertrand Grospellier would add a WSOP bracelet to his collection of poker achievements. However, this time the poker god’s weren’t on Bertrand Grospellier’s side he lost a huge pot with pocket kinds against pocket aces and had to settle for the 13th place.

When there was only 9 players left in the tournament they were all moved to the final table. The most famous poker player in the final table was English Roland De Wolfe who had already won a bracelet during the 2009 WSOP. Unfortunately for Roland he started the final table with a short stack and never managed to make proper run and in the end he finished 5th and won around $110,000.

One by one the players kept getting knocked out when there was only to players left in the tournament: Danish Jonas Klausen (who is a high stakes online poker player and 8th place finisher from 2009 EPT Copenhagen) and American Eric Baldwin (who before this tournament had made the WSOP final table one time before, in 2006 when he finished 6th in a $1,500 no limit holdem event). At the beginning of the headsup Eric Baldwin had a chiplead but after a few hands Jonas Klausen managed to get a tiny advantage.

In the biggest hand of the headsup the players got all the chips to the middle on QT4 flop when Jonas Klausen was holding QT against Eric Baldwin’s pocket 4’s. When Jonas couldn’t outdraw Eric he found himself with a tiny chip. Soon after Eric got rest of the Klausen’s chips and could start celebrating his first World Series of Poker bracelet.
