Marc Naalden from Netherlands continued the Europeans success in 2009 WOSP by winning the $2,000 limit holdem event.
Coming in to this event Marc Naalden had already managed to win nearly $1million during his poker career – however he had no major success in the World Series of Poker. This is even though he had already played 60 WSOP Tournaments during last few years. Given that he was obviously highly motivated to have success in this tournament and he never gave up his chip lead from when there were 25 players left till he reached the headsup play.
During the headsup play Steven Cowley managed to take the chiplead for a moment, but after while Marc got it back with aggressive play. In the final hand Marc raised from the small blind with Q8 off suited and Steven Cowley pushed allin with A5 suited. Naalden managed to hit the needed Q and could start celebrating his WSOP victory. This is the second ever WSOP bracelet to go to Netherlands.
This was a rare WSOP final table in that it didn’t feature any poker superstars.
