There have been multiple news reports that the Russian government (led by president Dimitri Medvedev and prime minister Vladimir Putin) would start closing down the Russian casinos. According to the sources the operation to close down most of the Russian casinos might start already on today 1st of July. It is still quite unclear why they would actually close the casinos, especially since the Russian economy is going downhill and it would just make the matters worse.

And indeed, many of the casino owners believe that this is just one of the many plans made by the government to keep the voters happy. And when the time actually comes the business will continue as usual.

Even if the casinos would close down poker players shouldn’t be too worried about it. Officially poker is a sport in Russia and thus people would still be allowed to play poker as usual.
