It appears that Belgium is going to follow the suit of France and couple other countries and start a licensed online poker system. The difference between Belgium and France is however that in Belgium online casinos that are already operating a land-based casino inside the country would be allowed to have an online poker room. According to the article published today on telemoustique webpage the draft of the law was already passed in March this year and Belgium is going to try and implement the law already this summer.
In the article there is a rightful question asked about how are the law makers supposing Belgians will be ready to play on their local sites with much smaller player pools and worse promotions. Well the answer to that question, according to one official, is very simple: IP ban all the “illegal” online poker rooms. He even goes as far as says that as it is already done with child pornography it really shouldn’t be an issue with online poker rooms.
And this ladies and gentlemen is how the modern and open Europe works.
